The Ledlenser updated MH4 offers a maximum output of 400 lumens white light from a single high powered LED and comes in a fully black body colour suited for more of a low profile look.
The white light cycles through the two settings of low, high and then off with each press. If in any setting for longer that 5 seconds, the next press will turn the head torch off.
As well as the main white light, the MH4 also features a red light side light which is useful for low level lighting, preserving the users night vision and animal spotting. The white and red light can be switched between by holding the button down on the top of the torch for 3 seconds in any state. Once in the red mode each press turns the red light and and off.
When the light is first turned on, the battery indicator will display a green, yellow or red light for 2 seconds to show the charge status of the battery so that you know when it needs charging. If the battery is very low, the white light will blink four times while in use.
The light can be focused from a flood beam to a spot beam by twisting the focusing bezel outwards and the hinged bracket allows the MH4 to be swivelled within a 60° angle so that you can position the light where you need it. The torch can be taken off the head band and used hands free and also features a pocket clip so it can be attached to clothing or a bag.
It is powered by a 14500 lithium-ion battery which is included, but it can also use a AA NiMH rechargeable battery or AA alkaline battery (the run-times will be different when using different battery types). To install or change the batteries the head lamp firstly needs to be removed from the bracket, which is eased open at the right hand side. Then using the pocket clip, twist the cover clockwise to the unlocked position and pop the battery cover off, which comes away with the pocket clip.
With the included lithium-ion battery installed, it can be charged inside the torch with the supplied magnetic charging cable. Connect the magnet to the charging point on the underside of the head lamp and the standard USB at the other end plugs into a computer or compatible USB adaptor (not included). The battery indicator light will turn red to show charging is in progress and will go green once charging is complete after approximately 2 hours, 30 minutes. If the battery is inserted the wrong way round or you attempt to charge AA batteries the indicator light will blink red/green to show there is a problem.
A great head torch for everyday use and activities such as fishing, camping and hiking, or for tasks around the house.
